First Test rescheduled for December 9
The first Test between India and Australia was rescheduled for December 9 at Adelaide, the adopted home ground of late batsman Phillip Hughes, whose tragic death left the cricketing world devastated. The revised schedule allows for a three-day break leading into the Brisbane Test and a four-day break ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne for players to adequately prepare.Old Schedule

Teams announced, Dhoni to miss first test
Batsman Virat Kohli will lead the tourists in the first Test in Brisbane from December 4, as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was ruled out of the opening match due to injury. The Indian selectors named a 19-man squad that comprises eight specialist batsmen and five seamers along with two wicket-keepers excluding Dhoni for the four match Test series. The two new faces in the squad are right-hand batsman Lokesh Rahul (22) and leg-spinner Karn Sharma (27). Rahul is the third opener behind Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay.Ishant Sharma leads the new-ball attack that includes Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron. The three spinners in the side are Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Karn Sharma.

Dies at 25, after freakish accident

Two days after being struck by a bouncer in what was called a freakish accident, Australian star cricketer Phillip Hughes died in a Sydney hospital on Thursday. Cricketers, politicians and sports people have paid tribute to Hughes, who at 25, became one of only a handful of professional players to suffer a fatal head injury on the field within the last century. Hughes had burst on to the international scene in 2009 with two hundreds in his second Test. The South Australian batsman was playing in a Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales when a bouncer from Sean Abbott hit his neck. Hughes received mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the pitch and was soon whisked by medical transport off the pitch to St Vincent's Hospital. He then received emergency surgery to reduce the pressure on his brain but never regained consciousness.
After his death was announced, cricket officials from Pakistan and New Zealand chose to postpone the second day's play in the third and final Test between the two countries. A two-day tour match between a Cricket Australia XI and India, scheduled to be played in Adelaide on Friday and Saturday, has been cancelled.

Man of the tournament in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh, has made a comeback to India's limited-overs squad for the Twenty20 and first three ODIs of the home series against Australia. The all-rounder, who made a comeback last year after battling a rare form of lung cancer, last played for India against England in an ODI in January.Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag failed to return to the team. Yuvraj's fitness partner Zaheer Khan also couldn't make the team. Batsmen Dinesh Karthik, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, seamer Mohit Sharma and spinner Parvez Rasool missed out from the team that played Zimbabwe.

A 16-man India 'A' squad will tour South Africa to play a triangular series against the A sides of South Africa and Australia, as well as two four-day games against the home side, from August 8 to 27. Shikhar Dhawan slammed 248, the second highest List A score ever, from 150 balls. His double century came in just 132 deliveries and included 24 boundaries and 4 sixes. He fell 20 runs short of the highest score in List A cricket. The record remains with Alistair Duncan Brown of England, who scored 268 off 160 balls for Surrey vs Glamorgan at The Oval on 19th June 2002. Pujara remained not out on 109, with India ending the innings on 433 for 3 in their must-win match versus hosts South Africa 'A'. In 19 ODIs to date, he has already struck three 100s, three half-centuries and averages 43.11.South Africa 'A' gave a great chase thanks to centuries from Reeza Hendricks (106) and Vaughn van Jaarsveld (108) before being bowled out for 394 in reply. India 'A' convincingly take CSA Tri-series title in Pretoria

India 'A' emphatically beat their Australian counterparts by 50 runs to clinch the Tri-series final of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) triangular series at the TUKS Oval in Pretoria on Wednesday. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India lost two wickets in the first six overs, but the 108-run third-wicket partnership between Shikhar Dhawan (62) and Dinesh Karthik (73) pulled the innings back in India’s favour. But India lost their last five wickets for 14 runs as they recorded the third-lowest total of the tournament.In Australia’s chase, Tim Paine (47) and Hazlewood (30) were the only ones to prosper in the face of some tight bowling from the Indian, especially the quick bowlers, who were able to extract slight extra bounce. Speedster Mohammed Shami (2-30) dealt initial blows, while Shahbaz Nadeem (3-34), Perveez Rasool (1-30) and Suresh Raina (1-33) kept the Aussie batsmen under tight leash. Australia were bowled out for 193 in 46.3 overs, handing India their fifth 'A' tournament victory since the concept was introduced in 1994.

India completed a 4-0 series whitewash, as Cheteshwar Pujara helped seal the win with an unbeaten 82 in Delhi. Chasing 155 to win, India were 5/3 in a mini-collapse before MS Dhoni (12 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara (82 not out) guided the home side to an historic series triumph, reaching 158/4 off just 31.2 overs to win with more than two days to spare. At the start of the day, the outlook was promising for Australia as they restricted India to adding only six runs to their overnight total (272 all out) with the help of spinner Nathan Lyon's career-best 7-94. Australia were skittled for 164 as man-of-the-match Ravindra Jadeja claimed 5-58 with his left-arm spinners to put the hosts on top. For Australia, tailender Peter Siddle (51 and 50) top-scored for the second time in the match - the first time a No.9 has done so in Test cricket.It's the first time Australia have lost four matches in a Test series since going down 5-1 in the 1978/79 Ashes. It is also the first time that Australia have lost a series 4-0 since a defeat by South Africa in 1970.

India's latest batting sensation Shikhar Dhawan who suffered a hand injury during the Mohali test was on Tuesday ruled out of the fourth and final Test against Australia in Delhi. He will be out of action for six weeks, and Suresh Raina will replace him in the squad. The selection committee had opted for veteran left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir as the substitute opener, before a blood test showed he was down with jaundice.In the absence of Sehwag, Gambhir and Dhawan, Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane are the only openers in the squad and Rahane, who is yet to play a Test, looks most likely to partner Vijay in Delhi. Suresh Raina, who has played 17 tests, wasn't part of the squad for the four Tests against England and the first three Tests against Australia.

After bowling out Australia for 223 in their second innings, India chased down the target of 133 with 15 balls remaining before close of play on the last day of the Mohali test to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This marks the first time that India have won three successive Tests against Australia in a Test series. Of the last Ten Tests played by Australia in India, they have lost eight and drawn the remaining three.Earlier, a defiant 65-minute last-wicket stand between Starc (35) and Xavier Doherty (18) consumed 18.1 overs for 44 runs to ensure the Indians bat well into the mandatory overs. When the final hour started, India required 45 runs from a minimum of 15 overs. With only a few overs to go, Jadeja (8) found the boundary twice after Sachin (21) was run out, and then skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (18) smashed three fours off Mitchell Clarke in a row to finish the innings and win the series.

India has dropped veteran batsman Virender Sehwag from the Test side for the first time since 2008, possibly ending the reign of one of cricket's most brutal openers. The squad was trimmed to 14 with the selectors deciding against picking a replacement for him. The out of form opener has scored just 27 runs in his three innings (2, 19 and 6) during the ongoing series. At the start of the Australia series, his regular opening partner Gautam Gambhir was also dropped from the Indian test squad, but then hit a century for India A against the touring side.
The hard-hitting 34-year-old has scored 8,586 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 49.34 since his debut in 2001. At his peak he was relentless, twice passing Triple Hundred - 309 in Multan in 2004 against Pakistan and 319 in Chennai against South Africa in 2008. However, he has scored only one century since November 2010 - a 117 against England in 2012. His 219 from 149 balls against West Indies remains a world record score in one-day international cricket. In the absence of Sehwag, Delhi-born left-hander Shikhar Dhawan could get a chance to open the innings with Murali Vijay in the two matches to be played in Mohali (from March 14) and Delhi (from March 22) respectively. MS Dhoni emerged as the most successful Indian captain as the hosts beat Australia by an innings and 135 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead at Hyderabad. This was his 22nd win as captain in 45 Tests with 5 away wins (1 SAF, 1 SRL, 1 NZL, 1 WIN, 1 BAN), going past Sourav Ganguly's 21 in 49 with 11 away wins (1 SRL, 1 AUS, 1 ENG, 1 PAK, 3 BAN, 3 ZMB, 1 WIN). Spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja produced a mesmerising spell as Australia folded for 131, becoming the first team to lose a Test by an innings after declaring their first innings. It was Ashwin's eighth five-for in 11 home Tests.

Sachin Tendulkar (13*) hit two sixes off the first two balls he faced from Lyon in the 9th over, after coming out to replace Sehwag who was out for 19. India took 11.3 overs to score the 50 runs required for a victory, but lost two wickets in the process. MS Dhoni, who is now level with Ganguly as the most successful Indian captain with 21 wins, won the man of the match award for his magnificent innings of 224 in the first innings.
